McCafferty Legal posted on 10 March 2023 about AEMO’s 5 yearly review of the National Electricity Rules’ technical requirements for connection in the NEM. AEMO’s draft report on proposed changes is currently open for consultation and AEMO has now published an addendum to that report addressing its proposed changes to customer (load) technical requirements in Chapter 5. There are a number of interesting proposed changes of note, including a focus on updating the Rules’ requirements around inverter-based loads in anticipation of new technologies such as electrolysers seeking network connection, and also expanding AEMO’s advisory role for reviewing access standards for loads from its currently limited advisory role to a more expanding one where a load access standard relates to AEMO’s system security functions.
The addendum is open for consultation until 23 May 2023, while the wider report remains open for consultation until 20 April 2023.
